AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC participation in the XI International Forum ATOMEXPO-2019

Forum ATOMEXPO-2019 took place in Sochi on April 15-16, 2019; it hosted the record number of participants – 3.5 thousand of nuclear experts, companies’ managers, scientists, marketing experts, mass media representatives as well as city and municipal authorities from 74 countries. ATOMEXPO-2019 has become a pinnacle event of the year and the biggest business platform of the nuclear industry for addressing topical issues and shaping trends of the world nuclear industry.

«There is no one area of human activities, where achievements of the nuclear industry are unavailable», - Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, highlighted in his speech at the plenary session. According to him, peaceful atom is closely linked to all tasks and goals of the sustainable development that the UN underlined. Alexey Likhachev on figures illustrated contribution of the nuclear industry in solution of the global task to reduce the “greenhouse gases” emission: «Woods that are called the lunges of the planet annually absorb in average around 2.5 billion tons of the carbon dioxide. They simply cannot more. However, almost the same figure, 2 billion tons of СО2, would go off into the atmosphere, if thermal power plants burning coal, gas and industrial fuel oil substitute all nuclear power plants. The global fleet of NPPs is comparable with woods and urban parks in terms of the common contribution into reduction of СО2 emission».

Besides the global issues of climate preservation and prospects of carbon-free energy, non-energy application of nuclear and radiation technologies and cutting-edge managerial solutions for development of urban infrastructure and improvement of the quality of life were addressed at the “round tables” and panel discussion of the Forum in Sochi.

As parts of the Rosatom State Corporation’s display, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC building the first Turkish NPP under the BOO model (Build-Own-Operate) and the managing company Rusatom Energy International demonstrated 3D model of Akkuyu NPP under construction and informed the members of various countries’ delegation about the status of the Project.

On the sidelines of the Forum, representatives of AKKUYU NUCLEAR had meetings with relevant European companies regarding confirmation of equipment compliance as well as with manufacturers of equipment for the plant, Rolls Royce and General Electric.

Under ATOMEXPO-2019, the Head of the Youth Association of AKKUYU NUCLEAR Sergey Malozemov participated in the work of the Industry Youth Counsel of Rosatom and the meeting with the Director General of the State Corporation Alexey Likhachev on discussion of tasks and challenges the young generation of the nuclear industry faces.
